Sir,
With reference to your telegram of the 25th and my reply of the 28th instant, I have the honour to request you to be good enough to authorise the Bacteriologist to purchase the equipment that will be necessary for his researches before he leaves England. In this connection I beg to refer you to the second paragraph of my Despatch No. 542 of the 2nd September, No. 449 of the 25th ultimo, and No. 469 of the 8th instant.

Dr. Atkinson requests that the Bacteriologist may be informed that he will have to prepare vaccine lymph, sufficient appliances for which purpose already exist here, and the different serums for Plague, Diphtheria and Typhoid. He should, therefore, be furnished with the appliances necessary for the preparation of such serums.
